Trailblazers Summer Camp for new Scouts at Camp Thunderbird. Summer camp is usually the highlight of the Scouting year. It can be particularly exciting for first year Scouts. At Camp Thunderbird, the first year camper program is called Trailblazer. Pathfinder is another common name for this type of program.
A typical first year program will offer the opportunity for Scouts to work on their early rank requirements. Many of the requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class lend themselves to the outdoor setting of summer camp.
They can practice knots, build fires, and learn to use a hand ax. Your Scouts will get to work on a merit badge as well. Other activities include swimming, boating, and shooting sports.
The Scouts are grouped into patrols with other Scouts and will have the opportunity to experience all of the activities that Camp Thunderbird has to offer.
Activities will include Trail to First Class requirements and the opportunity to work on a merit badge. Leadership and supervision is provided by the camp staff. Scouts can sign up as individuals or with a buddy or two.
• This camp is open to any first year Scouts up to age 14.
• All Scouts will be sleeping in tents and will need to bring their own.
• Family members are invited to stay for dinner after check-in. Fees for this meal will be collected at camp.
